Yesterday while making dinner, I lost the baby. Yes, it's true. I searched everywhere and as I began to panic, wondering how in the world he had managed to escape the gated and locked patio, I heard a giggle. Hooray! He wasn't lost at all, he was having a ball in his own little hiding spot.

Boys at work
I am quickly discovering that from the boys' perspectives, the most interesting things to do in the house are those that Mama and Daddy do every day. A mundane or even disliked chore by me is often the most exciting and engrossing activity the boys can imagine. This can result in tension and aggravation, like when G-Funk dismantled the vacuum, bag and all, in the middle of the living room floor because he was (or so he thought) vacuuming to help mama. But it can also result in moments of sheer bliss and gleeful giggle fits.
Case in point:
G-Funk is going through a spilling phase. I'm not thrilled about it as this often manifests itself in him spilling his food into his cup of water at the dinner table, or bold dumping of cups of milk onto the kitchen floor just to see what spilling liquid looks like. After taking away the bottle of water he was shaking all over the living room floor this morning(damn no spill sippie spouts are *not* no spill by the way) I decided there must be a way to let him pour water to his heart's content that didn't also make me want to lock him in a cage afterward. So...he's now washing dishes.
It should be noted that he is his father's child...he happily chowed down on leftover bacon from breakfast as he worked.
Recently, I decided to fashion a mosquito netting of sorts to help cut down on the number of houseflies we get since the back door is open all day long. The Pirate insisted on helping me hem the curtain. Here he comes to snatch the fabric...
Measuring?
He'll be back!
After watching Daddy fix the bathroom sink the other day, G-Funk decided his "car" was broken and he had to fix it using his father's flash light and a spoon. (because what else would a mechanic use right?)

Our Bob Dylan Saturday
We had a great day today just hanging out at home. Mama put away her clothes and G-Funk played harmonica while bouncing on Mama's bed (his trampoline he said). I am certain that the boys are Dylan fans. G-Funk spent a great deal of time playing along quite well on the harmonica with songs and even requested that we listen to it loud. Good times.

Postscript
The Pirate just took his first steps! No pictures to share, it happened so quickly. One day after he turned one he's a walker. I have to admit I got a bit teary eyed. The Pirate is exuberant with his success. I bet he's thinking, "Finally! That blond kid isn't gonna out run me anymore."
Happy First Birthday Pirate!

Good Morning! We saw a double rainbow this morning. If we hadn't been up at the crack of dawn we might have missed it. Thank you G-Funk and Pirate. :)
It's been raining a lot here the past few days. G-Funk is having one of those quintessential childhood moments this morning as he plays in the rainwater and mud. When he climbed into the bucket of water and sat down with a plop, I officially gave up on trying to keep him somewhat dry this morning.

A little something for our homies
The Simplest Joys!
G-Funk can turn anything into a weed whacker, lawn mower, edger, electric clipper, vacuum cleaner, leaf blower, power tool or blender. The best part is that he shouts Meh! at the top of his lungs as he correctly mimics the motions for the appropriate machine for extended periods of time. He has an incredible amount of stamina and endurance for this noise and we can only imagine what it must be like to be our neighbors.
Needless to say, G-Funk is always happy when Mama actually lets him vacuum. Today he helped me clean the kitchen and dining room floors and then wriggled all over with joy as I suggested he vacuum his and his brother's chair.
He did a great job too!
The Pirate had his own gleeful moments today as he got in a lot of dirt and/or sand throwing. He can't get enough of it. He has an arm! You should see him play ball. He plays better than G-Funk. I've got to get a picture of it. For now you'll have to imagine it from these.

Mommy can jump!
I know this blog is really about G-Funk and The Pirate but I do have something wonderful to share about me. I can jump. No shit dude, like two feet off the ground at the same time and air under my heels. There was a period in the last 5.5 years that I thought I would never jump again. Hop maybe, jump, nope. I have just come inside after jumping with Chris on our back patio. I jumped! It's fantastic. :)

Happy New Year!
Welcome 2009!
We've been pretty low key recently, enjoying our new Christmas loot and misty ocean weather. Here are two recent pics I think you'll like.
Daddy and G-Funk at the cliffs near our house enjoying a cool Christmas afternoon.
I won't lie. I was slightly nervous to see G-Funk's legs on the other side of the rail but I know Daddy has lightning fast hands and a keen ability to catch just about anything so I swallowed my completely irrational maternal fear and snapped a photo instead of allowing panic to reign over me.
And watch out world! The Pirate has begun cruising.
He's a speedy crawler and a bit of a daredevil at times but still cautious when it comes to actual walking practice. He loves to stand at our front fence and cruise along though so I bet walking is not too far off. He and I have been spending a lot of early afternoons outside recently so that he can squawk his little head off and not disturb G-Funk's much needed afternoon nap. After a spell outside, he's usually ready to go back in and nap and I am always more than happy to oblige.
